It is not a secret to anyone in this world.
We live in unprecedented times.
King Solomon says in Ecclesiastes that "there is nothing new under the sun." The older I get, the more this rings true.
The world we live in is dark, yet there is light.
We are the light.
"You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden."
Matthew 5:14

I've studied Matthew 5:14 so many times. I've wrestled with it more times than that. Here, God not only refers to His children as light but also as a city.
Have you ever been driving, looking up, and seeing a huge city approaching? I can remember living in Charlotte, NC. I lived right on the road that took me uptown. It always fascinated me that the buildings would be the first thing I noticed as I got close to the uptown areas. They exist so that we may see them.
We, too, show up to be seen.
How we shine our lights can be very different. Some may be looking to see how we use our voice. Some may be looking to understand how we are handling the pressures of the constant news. Some may be watching how we live our lives. It's all a light.
A light that is needed in the midst of darkness.
Light displays what is in the dark. Suddenly, we can see what is around us. That's what light does. It causes us to see.
Have you ever opened the blinds in your home after a few rainy, dark, stormy days? There is something about sunlight that adds energy and increases mood. That's what light does. It causes us to have hope and faith.
A commentary stated that when Jesus calls us light. It is both a compliment and a responsibility. It is not a suggestion; it is who we are, and because that is who we are, we can either fulfill the responsibility or not.
We often wonder, what should we do in unprecedented times. God, makes it plain for us.
Shine Our Light.
